Program Overview

The international community has unanimously agreed that there is no longer any doubt about the urgency of the climate crisis. The effects of climate change are increasingly manifesting themselves at different levels and affecting the activities of government and private sector organizations. To develop resilience in the face of this reality, organizations must plan and implement their decarbonization plans to ensure they contribute to the fight against climate change, mitigate its effects on their activities and, above all, seize the growth and sustainable development opportunities that decarbonization offers. Decarbonization planning is a process leading to the establishment of greenhouse gas (GHG) emission mitigation targets and carbon neutrality objectives. The starting point for planning at the organizational level consists of the quantification of GHG emissions (carbon footprint).

This course takes participants through the different steps for the design and development of GHG emission inventories based on best international standards. This course advances best practices for accounting for Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by adopting an applied and dynamic approach. The first day is focused on the essential steps for the preparation of GHG inventories. The second day is dedicated to requirements related to quality GHG emission inventory management, reporting, and verification.

This training includes quizzes, case studies, and simulation exercises to help participants put the course content into practice. It also provides participants with the knowledge necessary to understand the steps for designing and developing a GHG emissions inventory with the purpose of setting GHG emission mitigation or carbon neutrality targets for their organizations.

In this course you will learn to

  • Become familiar with the requirements and approaches for quantifying GHG emissions.
  • Apply the steps to design and develop Scope 1 and 2 GHG inventories.
  • Interpret the results of the inventory and extract results based on performance indicators.
  • Define an entity’s GHG emission reduction targets.
  • Ensure the quality of the inventory in accordance with applicable requirements.

This course is ideal for

  • Sustainability, environment, or decarbonization managers
  • Planning or strategy managers
  • Energy managers
  • Accountants
  • Consultants
  • Operational efficiency specialists
