Program Overview

The Working with the National Energy Code for Buildings (NECB) course provides tools to help anyone who must work regularly with the code to either comply with or enforce it. The course covers the most important aspects of the NECB, notably building envelopes, lighting, HVAC, and water heating.

This two-day course enables participants to comprehend the implications of the code for themselves and the perspectives of others. Day 1 is focused on theoretical elements to lay a solid foundation for Day 2 that involves numerous workshops. Activities such as group discussions and fictional case studies demonstrate to participants the importance of implementing NECB best practices.

Participants involved in this course should have prior work experience to be able to share various case studies with their colleagues during course activities. Such activities require participants to adopt a problem-solving approach to resolving issues. They may also prepare by brushing up on their knowledge of the NECB and studying the various versions of the code.

In this course you will learn to

  • Define the requirements of the NECB.
  • Apply a work methodology to ensure requirements are duly met.
  • Comply with the requirements of the NECB.
  • Differentiate between the 2017 and 2020 versions of the code.
  • Comprehend how the code affects your line of work.
  • Mobilize the latest technological advancements to achieve energy efficiency goals.
  • Use the NECB as a regulatory tool.

This course is ideal for

  • Building designers and architects
  • Construction professionals
  • Building inspectors
  • Consultants
  • Provincial building authorities
